About Dr Philip Markham

Dr Philip Markham is an Orthopaedic Surgeon who most recently trained in Sydney and obtained RACS Fellowship in 2016 as part of the AOA (Australian Orthopaedic Association) training program. Originally educated at the Edinburgh Medical School, Scotland, Dr Markham completed his Basic Surgical Training in 2005, before moving to Sydney and working at hospitals throughout NSW and the ACT. Following his AOA training, Dr Markham underwent a Fellowship in Shoulder and Reconstructive Surgery on the Central Coast with Dr Ed Bateman, before travelling to Canberra to complete a Hip and Knee Arthroplasty Fellowship with Prof. Paul Smith. Dr Markham then returned to the Central Coast where he has worked intensively as an Orthopaedic Surgeon, doing regular trauma and public elective cases in Gosford and elsewhere, before securing a full appointment to Gosford Public Hospital. Dr Markham recently opened a private practice, and has admitting rights at Brisbane Waters Private Hospital and Gosford Private Hospital. Specialising in hip, knee, shoulder and trauma surgery, Dr Markham has expertise in: – Primary and Revision Hip, Knee and Shoulder replacements – Knee arthroscopy (ACL reconstruction, patella stabilisation & meniscal repair) – Shoulder arthroscopy (rotator cuff repair, stabilisations & decompressions) – Trauma (comprehensive skill set of upper and lower limb trauma surgery) Dr Markham employs a variety of surgical approaches and techniques, including anterior and posterior approaches to the hip, computer assisted surgery and the use of robotics in joint replacement, and is happy to discuss the merits of the different surgical techniques with his patients during their initial consultation.
