Profile: Dr Yohan Chacko is a Clinical and Interventional Cardiologist.Raised in Townsville, North Queensland, he completed his medical degree at James Cook University, graduating with honours. He undertook his physician and specialty cardiology training at Princess Alexandra and Nambour General Hospitals. Following this, he commenced Interventional Cardiology training at Princess Alexandra Hospital and subsequently undertook an Interventional & Structural Cardiology Fellowship at the world-renowned Stanford University in California, USA.Dr Chacko has an interest in all aspects of clinical cardiology, including chest pain assessment, coronary artery & valvular heart disease and peri-operative management of cardiac patients. He performs diagnostic coronary angiography, coronary intervention (stenting) and transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI).While completing his fellowship at Stanford University, he undertook research in minimally invasive aortic valve therapies and advanced coronary physiology including fractional flow reserve, microvascular dysfunction and myocardial bridge assessment.Dr Chacko is an Associate lecturer at the University of Queensland and continues to be active in cardiology research and teaching. He has published numerous journal articles in national and international journals as well as a book chapter in Interventional Cardiology. His research has been presented at national and international conferences.Dr Chacko has held multiple leadership roles in the past including being Chair of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians Qld Trainees’ Committee, Deputy Chair of the Australian Medical Association Qld Council of Residents and Registrars and President of the James Cook University Medical Student Association.
