Profile: Dr Timothy Baird is a Queensland trained Respiratory and Sleep Physician who has recently commenced practice on the Sunshine Coast.Dr Baird graduated from the University of Queensland in 2008 and subsequently underwent specialist Respiratory and Sleep Medicine training at the Princess Alexander, Nambour General and Greenslopes Private Hospitals. Further to his respiratory and sleep training, Dr Baird also completed a Diploma of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene and has undertaken volunteer work as a medical officer in rural Papua New Guinea.Post being admitted as a specialist to the Royal Australian College of Physicians in 2017, Dr Baird underwent an international fellowship at the Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge, United Kingdom, where he developed further skills in complex lung infections, bronchiectasis and cystic fibrosis. Upon returning to Australia in 2019, Dr Baird has taken up a consultant position at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in addition to commencing private practice at Pulse Oceanside Medical in Birtinya.Dr Baird has a passion for bronchiectasis and respiratory infections, particularly non-tuberculous mycobacterial disease. In addition to these interests, Dr Baird consults in all other areas of respiratory and sleep medicine including asthma, COPD, lung cancer, interstitial lung disease, sleep apnoea, and non-respiratory sleep disorders. He is skilled in bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) and pleural disease management.Dr Baird remains actively involved in research and has published several international articles in addition to giving numerous presentations at local, national and international meetings.
