About Dr Teresa Withers

Profile: Dr Teresa Withers undertook her high school studies on Kwajalein Atoll, a missile tracking station in the Marshall Islands in the Pacific Ocean. She commenced medical training at the University of Queensland in 1982 and graduated with first class honours in 1987. Starting at the Royal Brisbane Hospital, she entered general surgical training and subsequently transferred to neurosurgical training. She completed her fellowship training with 2 years at the Prince of Wales and Sydney Children’s Hospital at Randwick. In 1999 she commenced Post-Fellowship Training in Paediatric Neurosurgery at the prestigious Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada.In 2000 Dr Withers returned to Australia and upon completing maternity leave started work in 2001 at the Gold Coast, Allamanda, Pindara and John Flynn Hospitals. Late in 2001 she was appointed the Director of Surgery at the Gold Coast Hospital. She currently oversees surgical services on both the Gold Coast Hospital and Robina Campuses. She currently chairs the Southern Zone Surgical Services Committee and is an active member of the Gold Coast Hospital Foundation. She is actively involved with the Queensland RACS and currently sits on countless state committees involving surgical services. In addition to this she maintains the lead in neurosurgery at the Gold Coast Hospital as the only full time neurosurgeon.Interests outside the worlds of surgery and neurosurgery include gourmet cooking and travel.
