He is a member of the Australian, American and European societies of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.Clinical Associate Professor O’Hagan is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists and a Fellow of the Australasian College of Tropical Medicine. He holds a Masters degree in Bioethics from Monash University and is a Clinical Associate Professor at the James Cook University School of Medicine. Associate Professor O’Hagan is currently the longest serving Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist working publicly at the Cairns Hospital. Presently, he is also involved as a research investigator in an Australia-wide, NHMRC multi-centered clinical trial for diabetic retinopathy. He is co-founder of the Queensland- Nepal Eye Project along with Dr. Anil Sharma.Assoc. Prof. O’Hagan is especially interested in research, educating and learning from his fellow colleagues, locally and internationally. He has published numerous articles in internationally peer-reviewed Ophthalmology journals on topics including: cataract surgery, corneal disease, melanoma, medical retina and oculoplastic conditions. He has delivered presentations and been an invited speaker at State, National and International scientific meetings and is a life member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. His Special interests: include complex cataract surgery and the use of premium IOL implants, complicated glaucoma surgery, trabeculectomy, and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS).In his spare time Dr O’Hagan enjoys relaxing and spending time with his family and friends.
