About Dr Sapna Dilgir

Profile: Dr Dilgir is an experienced obstetrician and gynaecologist who completed post-graduate medicine at Sydney University. Her first degree was a double major in food in nutritional sciences which she graduated with honours. She completed the majority of her training at St George Hospital in Sydney. She then moved to Townsville to undertake a fellowship in female pelvic floor surgery under the guidance of a world renown surgeon. After becoming a fully qualified obstetrician and gynaecologist she undertook further training in advanced laparoscopic surgery in order to become a member of the Australasian Gynaecologic Endoscopy Society (AGES). She has an interest in pelvic floor dysfunction including prolapse and incontinence and is especially passionate about birth trauma and sexual dysfunction. Being an advanced laparoscopic surgeon she is able to perform complex gynaecological surgery. Dr Dilgir continues to have an interest for obstetrics with a focus on high risk pregnancies.Dr Dilgir has played an active role in research and has published in global scientific journals. She has presented at international and national gynaecological meetings. Moreover, she has always played a significant role in medical student education including being an adjunct lecturer at James Cook University for three years. Dr Dilgir has a passion for women’s health in the developing world and is a founder and director of the charity Flourishing Women. She has travelled to Fiji on several occasions to train local doctors and midwives on prevention, management and treatment of pelvic floor trauma. She values this aspect of her role as an obstetrician and gynaecologist with utmost importance.
