About Dr Pierre Chapuis

Pierre Chapuis graduated MBBS from the University of Queensland in 1969 and was made a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1975. From 1976 to 1978 he underwent postgraduate training in the UK at the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport, Wales; the Glasgow Royal Infirmary; St. Mark's Hospital, London; The Centre Leon Berard, Lyon, France and the Edward Wilson Colon and Rectum Unit at Sydney Hospital. In 1979, he joined the Department of Surgery, the University of Sydney, at Concord Hospital as a Senior Research Fellow to Professor M.T. Pheils. He was awarded the John Loewenthal Research Fellowship in 1982. In 1984, Pierre Chapuis graduated Doctor of Surgery from the University of Queensland for a thesis entitled "Clinicopathological Study of Large Bowel Cancer". Pierre Chapuis was appointed a Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Sydney in 1993 and is a VMO and a member of the Colorectal Unit at Concord Hospital. He is the clinical director of the Concord Hospital Colorectal Cancer Registry. Pierre Chapuis is a Senior Editor of the ANZ Journal of Surgery. In 2010 Pierre was promoted to Clinical Professor in the Discipline of Surgery, the Sydney Medical School at the University of Sydney and Head of Academic Surgery at the Concord Clinical School, University of Sydney. Professor Chapuis has a special interest in the natural history, reporting and staging of large bowel cancer, and in the identification of independent prognostic variables in patient management and stratification in adjuvant therapy trials.
