Profile: Ramsay Cairns is delighted to introduce Dr. Mohan Swaminathan our new Consultant Paediatrician and Neonatologist. Dr Swaminathan is known as 'Dr Mohan' by his colleagues and patients and is also a Staff Specialist Paediatrician at Cairns Hospital.Mohan completed his medical training and post graduate clinical training in Paediatrics & Child Health at Grant Medical College & Sir J. J Group of Hospitals, University of Bombay (now Mumbai) in India.Dr Swaminathan has extensive experience working in the Australian Medical Force in the field of Neonatology & Paediatrics for the last two decades and has worked at various tertiary hospitals in Perth, Melbourne and Brisbane. He has also completed further training in Australia in Paediatrics and Neonatology and has been awarded FRACP (Paediatrics and Child Health).Mohan's teaching and research has been in the areas of perinatal and neonatal medicine, as well as injury surveillance and prevention. His areas of special interest and expertise are Neonatal Education especially Neonatal Resuscitation.Mohan has been a Senior Lecturer in Paediatrics & Child Health with the School of Medicine (University of Queensland) and was a Senior Lecturer and Clinical Mentor with the School of Medicine, Notre Dame University Fremantle, Perth. In addition, Mohan has been an active member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Mater Research.Dr Swaminathan is a facilitator for the Teaching on The Run (TOTR) program; a program designed to provide education to busy clinicians about developing effective clinician teaching methods (knowledge, attitude and skills). The program is designed to support clinical teaching to medical students and doctors receiving clinical training under their supervision.Mohan has an interest in amateur photography and creative arts. Dr Mohan will commence private from 1st July and has already commenced on call for specialist for newborns in Maternity at Cairns Private Hospital.
