Profile: Prof Patel is a uro-oncologist at Westmead Hospital, Sydney Australia and an academic at Macquarie University and the University of Sydney. Prof Patel graduated from the University of NSW in 1991. He undertook his residency and general surgery training at the Royal North Shore Hospital. He then completed a Masters of Medicine (USYD) in cell biology and protein biochemistry followed by his FRACS in Urology. Following Urology Training, A/Prof Patel completed a Uro- Oncology Fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York. He also completed a PhD on novel therapies for prostate cancer. A/Prof Patel has a special interest in the management of prostate cancer and bladder cancer. He also performs many of his oncology operations minimally invasively with the DaVinci Robot. He is a member of the ANZUP national GU trials sub-committees, speciality editor for the Australia New Zealand Journal of Surgery and director of the Urological Cancer Outcomes Centre at Westmead Hospital. He has written a number of books and book chapters related to prostate and bladder cancer management and authored over 100 peer reviewed journal articles.
