About Dr David A Young
Profile: David was born and raised in Melbourne, completing his undergraduate medical training at Melbourne University in 1973.He completed his orthopaedic surgical training through the Melbourne Orthopaedic Training Programme in 1981. This was followed by 12 months of further surgical training at the Bristol Royal Infirmary, England and he spent 6 months as a travelling fellow in Europe and Sweden. David returned to Melbourne to join the Melbourne Orthopaedic Group in 1984 where he continues to practice Orthopaedic Surgery. He spent 10 years as a visiting orthopaedic surgeon at the Alfred Hospital and is now in full time private practice.David is a member of the Australian Arthroplasty Association and the Australian Knee Society.David’s Special interests: are sports medicine and arthritis surgery. He is the orthopaedic surgeon to Western Bulldogs, Australian Rules Football team and is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon to the Australian and Victorian Institutes of Sports and Netball Australia. He continues to have active research interests in knee ligament injuries, patellar instability problems, the management of stress fractures in athletes. Hip preservation surgery is now a large component of his practice. He is committed to developing and teaching hip arthroscopic surgery techniques.David is married with four children and enjoys the sports of snow-skiing, wind-surfing and golf. His hobbies include woodcarving and antique furniture restoration.
