She graduated from The University of Melbourne School of Medicine in 2002. During her studies she also gained some experience in breast, endocrine and general surgery at the Queen Mary Hospital in Hong Kong.After graduation and internship at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Vivian was a resident medical officer at Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide before returning to Melbourne to complete general surgical training through the Alfred Hospital. She became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2011 and then undertook extensive post-fellowship subspecialty training in general, breast and endocrine surgery at Bendigo Health and Austin Health, Victoria, and Waikato District Health Board, New Zealand.During this period of subspecialty training in various major centres throughout Australasia, Vivian continued to enrich her skills and expertise, gaining valuable experience in elective and emergency general surgery in a diversity of environments as well as insights into oncoplastic techniques for optimising breast cancer surgery, refining expertise in thyroidectomy for medication resistant Graves’ disease and large multinodular goitres, and minimally invasive parathyroidectomy.Vivian also has a keen interest in surgical education. She is a member of the Academy of Surgical Educators and regularly instructs on courses for surgical trainees through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and General Surgeons Australia. She is currently undertaking studies towards a Masters of Surgical Education.
