Profile: Dr Tom O’Rourke has a broad interest in all aspects of general and laparoscopic surgery. His specific interests include hernia repair, gallbladder disease, liver resection and pancreatic surgery.Dr O’Rourke completed his general surgical training at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and gained general fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2005. Following this, he travelled to the United Kingdom where he undertook specialist fellowship training in hepatobiliary surgery at the North Hampshire Hospital, and surgical oncology at the Royal Marsden Hospital. During this time abroad, he met and learnt from a host of leaders in HPB surgery and surgical oncology, and was active in research and international meetings.Returning to Brisbane in 2008, he trained in liver transplant and advanced HPB surgery as fellow at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. He was appointed as consultant general, HPB and liver transplant surgeon at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in 2009. Dr O'Rourke is the supervisor of surgical training at Princess Alexandra Hospital and a member of the Queensland board in general surgery.
