Profile: Professor Havas is one of Australia's leading Otolaryngologists. He has Special interests: in Head & Neck Oncology, Laryngology and Voice Disorders, Cosmetic and Functional Rhinology surgery for snoring and sleep disorders and Paediatric Otorhinolaryngology specifically nasal obstruction, sinusitis, airway and breathing problems.He finished his Australian training in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery in 1984, culminating in a fellowship with the Australian College of Surgeons in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery.Thereafter he undertook further training in Edinburgh, Scotland culminating in the awarding of a Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery.Formal post Fellowship training was undertaken in Toronto, Canada. Initially Professor Havas was Fellow in Paediatric Otolaryngology at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto under the mentorship of Professor William Crysdale.Thereafter he became the first Fellow in Head and Neck Oncology at Toronto General Hospital/University under Professor Patrick Gullane. This was the first Canadian position accredited by the American Head and Neck Society.He is a fellow of the College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the Royal Australian College of Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons.He was awarded a Doctorate of Medicine from the University of New South Wales in 2004.Professor Havas returned to academic practice in Sydney in 1987.He is currently Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at the Prince of Wales Hospital and Sydney Hospital and holds a Professorial appointment at the University of NSW.He was Senior Otolaryngologist at Sydney Children’s Hospital from 1988 to 2009.He is the Author of over 80 publications, textbook chapters and numerous teaching videos and monograms.He has presented at over 150 major National and International meetings.
