• 08.10.2022I was diagnosed with a large inguinal hernia that required surgical repair. I wanted a surgeon I could trust to do exemplary surgery. After researching online, I chose to ask my GP for a referral to Dr Sze Ling Wong.
Dr Wong was the lead surgeon on the team who performed the operation on me. I am so happy that I chose Sze as my surgeon. Her laparoscopic surgery credentials & experience are impressive and impeccable. I was totally content and very relaxed in leaving myself in her capable hands. For me that was essential.
At our initial consultation, she explained and demonstrated carefully in some detail the surgical options and how she proposed that she and her team would perform the repair. She scheduled me for the laparoscopic surgery the following week with an overnight stay.
I couldn’t be happier with Sze, her team, SJOG Hospital Midland and all the nurses during the day of the surgery and overnight stay. They were all so attentive, helpful and professional. On the day of surgery, I was admitted to hospital early morning. I was moved to the operating theatre around midday where Sze and her team were preparing to operate on me. It was a very friendly, helpful and collegiate atmosphere. I was very content, relaxed and at ease. No anxiety, no stress. Sze spoke calmly with me again about the planned surgery before the anesthetist started the procedure to put me under, explaining it as he was doing so.
I woke late in the afternoon back in my room, still drowsy from the anesthesia. Sze visited not long after to look in on me and tell me how the surgery had gone. She explained that my hernia was larger and longer than was apparent from the CT scan, extending deep into my scrotum. She explained how she had to very carefully separate as much of it as she could from the surrounding tissue before having to cut and leave a small piece for my body to reabsorb. She told me that the laparoscopic surgery had gone well despite that development, with no adverse complications.
In the 6 weeks post operation, the 3 incisions have all healed exceptionally well. Two are tiny, smooth and virtually imperceptible. The third is a 2.5cm thin line likely to shrink further as it heals fully. I’ve experienced no pain or other side effects from the operation. While prescribed post operative pain medication, I haven’t needed to use any.
I had a short consult this week with Sze for her to check my recovery, inspect the healing incisions and area of the repair, and answer any questions I might have. Because the hernia was so much larger than had been anticipated and had incorporated with surrounding tissue, I asked Sze whether it might have existed well before the bulge had recently appeared in my groin. She informed me that it had probably been developing for at least a couple of years.
Sorry this review is so long, but I wish to share my appreciation. Throughout this short journey for me, Sze has always been so helpful, attentive and professional and the surgery performed on was me awesome and faultless. I am happy to give my highest recommendation without any reservation.
