About Dr Su Kalava

Dr Su Kalava completed her medical degree in 2008 and became a Fellow of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry in 2017. Dr Kalava is Australian trained and has worked in a variety of settings including tertiary hospitals, and regional and rural areas across QLD, SA, NSW. She has completed extensive work experience locally at both Wyong and Gosford hospitals and has worked in a mood disorders unit that specialises in treatment resistant mood disorders. She also completed over a years experience in specialist drug and alcohol service at Royal North Shore Hospital. Dr Kalava also has experience in Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) and is keen to see patients with personality disorders. She is trained in psychotherapy including: Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) Interpersonal therapy (IPT) Motivational interviewing (MI), and Psycho dynamically informed psychotherapy Dr Kalava specialises in addiction psychiatry, with a special interest in chronic pain. Areas of interest include: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Dual diagnosis – addiction disorder, mental illness Perinatal Mental Health – Antenatal depression, Postnatal depression and Postpartum Psychosis Chronic pain Personality disorders Mood disorders (trained at Northside Clinic – Mood Disorders Unit) Dr Kalava has joined the Psychiatry team at Brisbane Waters Private and is pleased to accept referrals for outpatients immediately.
