Haematologists treat conditions of the blood and the lymphoid glands, including leukaemia, myeloma, Hodgkin lymphoma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma, anaemia, haemophilia, thalassaemia, sickle cell disease, haemoglobinopathy, coagulation disorders, autoimmune diseases. A Medical Oncologist is a consultant physician specialising in the investigation, study, diagnosis, management and treatment of benign and malignant growths, tumours, cancers and diseases. Sub-specialties of oncology includes surgical oncology (removes the tumour or cancerous tissue during an operation), radiation oncology (radiation therapy), medical oncology (chemotherapy and ) hormone therapy, gynaecological oncologist (treats cancers of the female reproductive system and genitals), haematological oncologist (treats cancers of the blood and bone marrow), paediatric oncologist (treats cancers in children).
