About Dr Sonja Schleimer

Profile: Dr Sonja Schleimer is an Australian trained Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in foot and ankle surgery. She was one of the first to graduate from the University of Sydney with a combined degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery with honors and a PhD in Medicine in 2006.Dr Schleimer commenced orthopaedic training in Queensland in 2010 and worked at Gold Coast University hospital as part of her training rotations. After successfully passing her orthopaedic fellowship exam, she commenced work as the Deputy Director of Orthopaedics at Logan Bayside Hospital, before embarking on her overseas foot and ankle fellowship at the world-renowned Charité Hospital in Berlin Germany. During her fellowship, she took part in a number of advanced foot and ankle courses including MIS foot surgery. She travelled to France to visit and learn from one of the founders of Minimally Invasive Foot Surgery.Dr Schleimer is an involved member of the AOA as well as RACS. She has an active interest in teaching registrars as well as medical students, and is involved in a number of international foot and ankle research projects.Sonja is looking forward in working with other health professionals as well as participating in health practioner education sessions.She has now returned from overseas and is excited about starting work at Pindara Hospital as well as working at Logan and Gold Coast University hospital as a part-time staff specialist.Her special areas of interest are: foot and ankle trauma in particular Achilles tendon injuries, foot and ankle corrective surgery including ankle arthroplasty, as well as paediatric lower limb conditions.
