Profile: Dr Bhutia completed his medical training with a Master’s degree in General Surgery in India in 1996. He obtained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland and the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow in 1998. He travelled to the UK in 2001 to pursue specialist training in Vascular surgery. He trained in the Northern Deanery, spending most of his training years at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle Upon Tyne, obtaining his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons with Vascular Interest in 2011. He moved to Australia in 2012 to undertake post-fellowship training in Endovascular Surgery at Townsville Hospital. In 2014, Dr Bhutia joined Cairns Hospital as a full time Staff Specialist and obtained his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in Vascular Surgery in 2015.His scope of practice covers open and endovascular management of all arterial aneurysms, carotid artery disease, peripheral arterial disease, mesenteric vascular disease, chronic venous disease, varicose veins, chronic leg and diabetic foot ulcer, renal access for haemodialysis and port access. He has special interest in thoracic outlet syndrome, arteriovenous malformation and upper limb hyperhidrosis.Dr Bhutia is a leading exponent of Jetstream Atherectomy for peripheral arterial disease in Australia. Dr Bhutia is also an early adopter of endovenous glue ablation for varicose veins. Along with open surgery, radiofrequency ablation, foam sclerotherapy and microsclerotherapy, he offers the most comprehensive range of interventions for patients with varicose veins.Dr Bhutia attends Cairns Vascular Clinic on Fridays where he offers vascular consultation, ABPI measurement, wound dressing change and microsclerotherapy for thread veins.Dr Bhutia performs all of his open surgical procedures in the operating theatres at Cairns Private Hospital and all of his endovascular procedures in the new Discovery Cardiac Cath Lab at Cairns Private Hospital, offering a no-gap fee to patients.The clinic endeavours to contact patients with appointments within 24 hours of receiving a referral.All referrals received via fax, email or Medical Objects.
