Dr Simpson graduated from Sydney University in 1989 and undertook physician's training at Concord Hospital specialising in gastroenterology/hepatology. He completed his Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians in 1996, including recognition of training in Upper GI Endoscopy and Colonoscopy. He has been in private practice as a consultant gastroenterologist/hepatologist in the Hornsby area since 1998. He has been an Attending Medical Officer at the Sydney Adventist Hospital since 1998 as a gastroenterologist and general physician, with regular endoscopy lists (gastroscopy and colonoscopy). Other hospital appointments include the Hornsby Kuring-gai and Lady Davidson Hospitals. Dr Simpsons' special interests include interventional endoscopy, gastrointestinal bleeding, functional bowel disease and laryngopharyngeal reflux.
Gastroenterologist specializes in the prevention, investigation, treatment of and research into illnesses involving the gastrointestinal tract and liver such as inflammatory bowel disease, coeliac disease, irritable bowel syndrome and gastro-oesophageal disease. Hepatologist treats of liver related conditions including hepatitis to alcohol induced liver damage, cirrhosis of the liver and liver cancers, viral hepatitis and autoimmune hepatitis, fatty liver, cirrhosis of the liver, liver cancer, jaundice, portal hypertension, metabolic liver disease.
