Profile: Dr. Kohan graduated from the University of New South Wales in 1998, and completed his neurosurgical training in Sydney and Melbourne in 2007. After completing intership and one year of residency at Liverpool Hospital in Sydney,he started his training in neurosurgery. He has worked with some of the most respected neurosurgeons and spine surgeons in Sydney and Melbourne spinal injury units (Prince of Wales and Austin Hospitals) as well as spending a year at St. Vincent's hospital for spinal surgery fellowship. He also regularly attends local and overseas training seminars on management of complex brain and spinal pathologies and his current interest is in minimally invasive brain and spine surgery. Following completion of his formal training in neurosurgery and spine surgery he also undertook fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery in Istanbul, Turkey, with Prof. Memet Ozek (past president of European Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery) where he gained in depth knowledge and skills in management of congenital spinal malformations, brain tumors and neuroendoscopy ( keyhole brain surgery). He has special interest in complex spinal pathologies including degenerative pathology, trauma, and tumours involving spinal column and the spinal cord; complex congenital spinal malformations; neuro-oncology (tumours of the brain); neuro-endoscopy (keyhole surgery of the brain); and neurosurgical interventions for cerebral palsy and spasticity (including selective dorsal rhizotomy).
