About Dr Richard Gardner
Dr Richard Gardner is an ophthalmologist who has completed a fellowship in paediatic ophthalmology and strabismus at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London and is currently undertaking a fellowship in paediatrics ophthalmology at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London.
Dr Gardner graduated in medicine from the University of Western Australia in 1993. He then completed a Diploma in Child Health at Princess Margaret Hospital for Children in 1996 whilst undertaking 2 years training in paediatrics. He has also worked for 3 years at the University of Western Australia as a tutor in head and neck anatomy and clinical lecturer and completed his ophthalmology training in Perth, Western Australia in 2005. He currently consults at St John of God Subiaco Hospital.
Dr Gardner designed the retinopathy of prematurity screening record included in the recently updated Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health guidelines and has also developed software for teaching retinopathy of prematurity screening and management. He has also developed a number of 3D animations in brainstem neuroanatomy and optics.
Dr Gardner’s current research interests include the use of botulinum toxin in the management of strabismus and worldwide trends in the management of retinopathy of prematurity.
