Dr Eek completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in 1995(Hons) from the University of Pretoria, South Africa. He became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2006. After arriving in Australia in 2005 Dr Eek took up a position in Sydney's south west working as a Medical Oncologist and Director of one of the Health Services Clinical Trials Units before relocating to the Border in 2008.
A Medical Oncologist is a consultant physician specialising in the investigation, study, diagnosis, management and treatment of benign and malignant growths, tumours, cancers and diseases. Sub-specialties of oncology includes surgical oncology (removes the tumour or cancerous tissue during an operation), radiation oncology (radiation therapy), medical oncology (chemotherapy and ) hormone therapy, gynaecological oncologist (treats cancers of the female reproductive system and genitals), haematological oncologist (treats cancers of the blood and bone marrow), paediatric oncologist (treats cancers in children).
