Profile: Background/TrainingDr Conyers completed her undergraduate degree at Monash University, graduating with first class honours in 2003. After completing an internship at The Alfred Hospital she moved toThe Royal Children’s Hospital to complete Paediatric and then advanced training in Paediatric Haematology/ Oncology.Dr Conyers undertook two fellowships overseas in Bone MarrowTransplant (Great Ormond Street Hospital, London) and Adolescent and Young Adult Sarcoma (University College Hospital, London) in 2009/10 and 2013.Upon her return to Australia, Dr Conyers undertook a further fellowship in Adolescent and Young Adult Haematology atPeter MacCallum Cancer Centre (2010-2013) and was a lead medical support for the statewide adolescent and young adult psychosocial service OnTrac@petermac. During this time shecompleted a laboratory based PhD in Sarcoma genomics and genetics under the guidance of Professor David Thomas, graduating in 2015 from Melbourne University. In 2016 she hasfounded the Young Cancer Network – a network of clinicians specialising in adolescent and young adult haematology/oncology care in the private sector.Dr Conyers is keen to bring the subspecialty focus of adolescent and young adult haematology and oncology to the south-eastern precinct. She recognises that this age group of patients requires a different approach to both paediatrics and adults. Her background and training ensure that she has fundamental links to appropriate psychosocial services for this group (education, psychology, social work) along with an adolescent and young adult friendly approach. Her academic and tertiary hospital appointments ensure that she has access to both cutting edge research and open trials crucial for oncology and haematology care.
