Philosophy of care statement: “I enjoy the variety and technical challenge of hand surgery. Most of all though, I enjoy connecting with the people I meet and treat. We all value our hands, regardless of age, occupation, interests and hobbies. The greatest challenge for me, and the most rewarding aspect of my work, is tailoring treatment to suit lifestyle. I feel fortunate to have such an interesting job.” Dr Peter Scougall is a Hand and Wrist Surgeon, with over 25 years in private practice. He specialises in the surgical treatment of traumatic and elective hand and wrist conditions, including sports injuries, fractures, dislocations, Dupuytren’s contracture, tumours, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, ganglions and tendon and nerve conditions. Dr Scougall graduated with Honours from the University of Sydney in 1984. After completing his Orthopaedic training in Newcastle, he became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1994. Following a Trauma Surgery Fellowship in Innsbruck, Austria, he returned to Australia for Hand and Microsurgery Fellowships in Sydney (Sydney/St Luke’s Hospital Hand Units) and Melbourne (St Vincent’s Hospital). Dr Scougall works at the highly respected Sydney Hospital Hand Unit. He consults at St Lukes Care (Potts Point), The Stadium Sports Medicine Centre (Moore Park) and also in Wollongong and Figtree. He maintains his hand surgery expertise through a keen involvement in research (Orthopaedic Research Laboratory, Prince of Wales Hospital), and teaching appointments in Orthopaedic, Hand and Microsurgery. Dr Scougall’s unique skillset and passion has international reach thanks to his 20-year involvement in hand surgery teaching in Vietnam. His dedication to the project has been acknowledged with awards from the President of Vietnam and Rotary International. Special interests: Sports injuries, acute wrist fractures and dislocations, finger fractures, tendon injuries and Dupuytren’s contracture.
