About Dr Oliver Florica

Dr Florica earned his MD in 1990 from Carol Davila Medical University in Bucharest, Romania. He interned in South Africa, then furthered his experience at Groote Schuur Hospital (Cape Town) and Witwaterstrand University, (Johannesburg) training in a variety of surgical specialties including trauma, emergency, general surgery, orthopaedics, plastic and reconstructive surgery, thoracic and cardiovascular surgery, neurosurgical emergencies, intensive care and life support techniques. Dr Florica moved to Australia in 1995 to continue training in General Surgery. He qualified as a Specialist in 2002 earning his FRACS. Since then, laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery has become the focus of Dr Florica's practice. His experience of over 2000 laparoscopic surgeries regularly includes gallbladder, bowel (colo-rectal), hernia and anti-reflux procedures. Dr Florica's main surgical interest is laparoscopic gastric banding as a weight loss solution and a surgical procedure with almost 20 years proven records that in good hands presents as one of the safest, reversable and efficient solutions for morbidly obese patients._x000D_ Since 2003 Dr Florica has completed courses and has been mentored in a range of bariatric surgeries in Australia and overseas. In 2008 Dr Florica has earned a Diploma in laproscopic surgery from the University of Strasbourg in France. Dr Florica has been practicing in North Sydney and patients are seen for surgery at The Sydney Adventist Hospital or endoscopy at Castle Hill Day Surgery. Dr Florica has contributed research papers, publication, lectures and other presentation on laparscopic surery and gastric banding at different levels of professional meetings. Current interests are in techniques of establishing pneumoperitneum where 1000 cases are reviewed and hernia repair techniques using optical trocars.
