Megan works at the Liz Plummer Cancer Care Centre at Cairns Hospital as well as Response Oncology and Cairns Private Hospital. She also holds an adjunct senior lecturer appointment with James Cook University.Megan spent time in Cairns in her childhood including completing her secondary education at Trinity Anglican School.Megan completed her Bachelor of Medicine at the University of Newcastle in 2002. She received her Fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2013 having undertaken medical oncology advanced training in Newcastle, NSW. Megan subsequently completed a clinical research fellowship at Melanoma Institute Australia, Sydney in 2013-14.Megan has a strong background in clinical research and has presented her research at several national and international meetings, including the Society for Melanoma Research Congress and the American Society of Clinical Oncology Annual meeting. Megan has also had her work published in major international peer reviewed journals, including the Journal of Clinical Oncology.Since returning to Cairns with her husband and family in 2014, Megan has actively implemented strategies to improve the quality of care and access to therapies for cancer patients in Far North Queensland. This has included establishing a strong oncology research department and Megan is currently principal investigator on several Phase 1-3 clinical trials for cancer patients. She is also involved in implementing the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia Tele-Trial Model to facilitate trial access for regional Australians. Megan is chairperson of the Cairns Hospital High Risk Skin/Melanoma MDT and of the Oncology Clinical Research Meeting.Megan is committed to ensuring equitable treatment for cancer patients living in regional Australia.
