About Dr Matthew Giblin

Dr Giblin graduated MBBS (Hons II) from University of NSW in 1978. He completed the first part of his FRACS in 1979, and the second part in 1985, in Orthopaedics. Between 1978 and 1979 he completed his residency at St Vincent's Hospital, and in 1980, his third year of residency was completed at Royal Newcastle Hospital. From 1981 to 1984 he was Orthopaedic Registrar at Newcastle Hospital, and was in private practice between 1985 and 1989. He was Honorary Orthopaedic Surgeon in the public hospital system from 1989 to 1998, and is currently a Private Specialist Practitioner in Orthopaedics. Dr Giblin in currently a Specialist Representative on two Private Hospital Medical Advisory Boards, and is the coordinator of the Dalcross Spinal Education Program. For a period of close to ten years he has also been the Club Specialist at Western Suburbs League Club. He is also an Honorary Medical Officer at Palm Beach Surf Life Saving Club. Dr Giblin's special interests include spine, knee surgery and joint replacement. He has been published in the A.N.Z. Journal of Surgery, Vol.5, No.1, February 1980, Page 50: "Rupture tibialis posterior tendon, associated with closed medial malleolar fracture." He has also presented a number of papers at Australian Orthopaedic Association, State and National meetings, and the Australian Spine Society Meeting. His interest in spine centres on the lumbar spine, and in particular Microdiscectomy; Fusion; and Disc replacement.
