He then started his medical training at Birmingham University Medical School, graduating in 1994. He trained as a General Practitioner in Brighton with an attachment at the Skin Cancer Clinic at the Royal Sussex County Hospital. He became a Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP) in 1999, then moved to New Zealand and became a Fellow of the New Zealand College of General Practitioners (FRNZCGP) in 2004.
