Profile: Dr Mark Ward studied Medicine at Monash University, graduating in 2004. After completing his physician and gastroenterology training at the Alfred Hospital and Eastern Health he undertook an advanced clinical fellowship in London at St. Thomas’ Hospital, where he gained expertise in inflammatory bowel disease and in endoscopy. He was awarded a further degree (Doctor of Medicine) from Monash University in 2017 for research into improving patient outcomes in inflammatory bowel disease. He is the author of multiple publications and is regularly invited to speak on a range of IBD topics at local and national meetings. Mark is currently serving on the Australian Inflammatory Bowel Disease Association Committee.His focus extends beyond inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome to encompass all aspects of gastroenterology, including coeliac disease, bowel cancer screening and liver disorders. He understands the importance of a multi-disciplinary approach to gastrointestinal disorders, including dietary and psychological based therapies. Mark values communication with patients and families and is committed to providing patient-centred care.Mark is married and enjoys wind-surfing, travelling and spending time with his new daughter and his two cats.
