Profile: After Mark obtained his Royal Australasian College f Surgeons fellowship, he travelled to London, UK, for further training and experience as an international fellow and then Consultant surgeon in Laparoscopic Bariatric & Benign Upper Gastrointestinal surgery at Chelsea & Westminster NHS Hospital Trust.Having recently moved back to Newcastle, Dr Gately is focusing on his Bariatric surgical practice in the Newcastle and Maitland areas. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and a member of OSSANZ and ASMBS.Dr Gately is committed to teaching and has been employed by the University of Newcastle as a surgical tutor. Whilst working in the UK he was an assessor for the Imperial College School of Medicine, and was actively involved in training surgical residents and registrars.Dr Gately is happy to contribute to GP education in the areas of bariatric, upper GIT and general surgery.
