Amongst other prizes, he was awarded the Royal College of Physicians Prize in Clinical Medicine.He trained as an ophthalmologist at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne, before undergoing further fellowship training in Oxford Eye Hospital and the Bristol Eye Hospital in the United Kingdom.In 2010, he returned to Australia to train in vitreoretinal surgery at the Royal Perth Hospital and the Lions Eye Institute in Perth. He has set up a vitreoretinal surgical service in Coffs Harbour Day Surgery to treat patients with retinal detachments, vitreous haemorrhages, macular holes and other vitreoretinal disease.
