Profile: Waverley Private Hospital would like to introduce Mr Kareem Marwan a consultant general surgeon with an interest in colorectal (lower gastrointestinal) surgery. His practice is largely minimally invasive (laparoscopic or keyhole) when appropriate. He also has a keen interest in endoscopy and general paediatric surgery. Kareem obtained his Australasian fellowship in Surgery in February 2012 after training at St Vincent’s Hospital, the Alfred and Monash Medical Centre. He then spent 18 months in Colchester, UK where he undertook a fellowship followed by consultant post in colorectal and advanced laparoscopic surgery. Colchester hospital is a leading centre in keyhole and bowel surgery. Prior to General surgical training, he completed advanced paediatric surgery training in Paris, France (2000).Kareem is keen on education and training, with membership of the Academy of Surgical Educators at the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. He is a member of international professional organisations including the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain & Ireland, the European Society of Coloproctology, and the Royal college of Surgeons of Edinburgh.Kareem has a no wait policy and all patients will be seen promptly in the rooms always within a week. With public and private consulting and operating sessions, both insured and uninsured patients can be looked after. Patients with a straightforward diagnosis can be admitted directly to a hospital bed without the need to go through Emergency Department.
