Dr John Carmody graduated from medical school in Dublin, Ireland. He completed this Neurology training in Sydney shortly afterwards. Since arriving in Wollongong as a Neurologist in 2009, the opportunity arose at the University of Wollongong to undertake a PhD under the supervision of Prof Don Iverson and A/Prof Victoria Traynor. Now completed, this led to national and international peer-reviewed publications. As a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Wollongong medical school, Dr Carmody is responsible for supervising local and elective (overseas) medical students. As a National Examiner for the RACP, he provides tuition for medical registrars and has co-authored chapters in two medical clinical skills textbooks. He provides training to junior and senior doctors on the use of Botox®: direct instruction and lectures. And also serves as a reviewer for numerous medical journals. Dr Carmody offers weekly botulinum toxin (Botox®) clinics for neurological disorders. Conditions treated include migraine, sweating, blepharospasm, cervical dystonia, hemifacial spasm, post-stroke spasticity, cerebral palsy, dystonic tremor, facial synkinesis, oromandibular dystonia, bruxism and sialorrhoea. Useful sources of information can be found at www.dystonia.org.au or www.botoxchronicmigraine.com or www.sweathelp.org or www.beb.org.au In the past, patients from the Illawarra and Shoalhaven had to travel to Sydney for Botox® treatment. Since commencing the service in Wollongong in 2015, Dr Carmody's Botox® clinics have quickly become quite popular. In fact, he now has patients travel for Botox® treatment from regional NSW, Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne and Tasmania! Many are pleasantly surprised at how well the treatment works, how quick each treatment session is and also, how affordable it is. An excellent example is the impressive result achieved by using Botox® for sweating: one set of injections every four months, rapid resolution of sweating, minimal out-of-pocket fee. Most patients who receive Botox® with Dr Carmody will receive the majority of their costs reimbursed by Medicare. Special interests: Botulinum toxin
