About Dr Jamie Layland

Profile: Professor Layland is an experienced general and interventional cardiologist working predominantly on the Mornington Peninsula and in southern Gippsland. He undertook advanced cardiology training at St Vincents Hospital, Melbourne and the Prince Charles Hospital, Brisbane. Jamie then undertook a very productive PhD at the University of Melbourne examining the role of the coronary microcirculation in patients with ischaemic heart disease. Following his PhD Professor Layland then undertook a post doctoral interventional fellowship at the University of Glasgow / Golden Jubilee Hospital in Scotland with Professor Colin Berry and Professor Keith Oldroyd.He returned to Australia in 2013 whereby he was appointed as a staff specialist in cardiology at Peninsula Health and a visiting medical officer at St Vincent's Health. He is currently Director of Cardiovascular research at Peninsula Health and an Adjunct Professor of medicine through Monash University. He has a further honorary public appointment at St Vincents Hospital, Melbourne and private appointments at Peninsula Private and St Vincents Private Hospital.Jamie has a clinical interest in all aspects of cardiology including the management of patients with coronary artery disease, the assessment of cardiovascular risk and the management of heart failure. He performs coronary angiography, coronary stenting as well as coronary physiology and imaging.Professor Layland's main research interests are in the treatment of coronary artery disease and improving outcomes for patients with myocardial infarction (heart attack). He performs a mixture of investigator initiated and commercial research at Peninsula Health with national and international collaborations and is the primary supervisor for medical and PhD students.Jamie is widely published with over 60 peer reviewed publications in major journals.
