About Dr James Ledgard
MBBS FRACS (Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery)
Profile: James Ledgard is a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon with subspecialty training in hand and wrist surgery. He completed his 5 year Plastic Surgery programme in Sydney before a further 2 years fellowship training with plastic and orthopaedic surgeons both internationally and locally. He looks after all conditions of the hand and wrist but has a special interest in tetraplegic hand reconstruction, the treatment of spasticity and the treatment of nerve injuries. He also performs skin cancer excision and reconstruction.James travelled to Gothenburg, Sweden to complete his fellowship in tetraplegic hand reconstruction and spasticity, and now has returned to North Shore to work with the team that provides this service for NSW. In Cape Town, South Africa James completed a fellowship in traumatic hand reconstruction. Most recently he completed fellowships in the hand department of Sydney Hospital where he concentrated on elective hand and wrist surgery as well as Collagenase injections for Dupuytren’s.James works in both the public and private hospitals at the North Shore campus. Through Royal North Shore he is actively involved in the teaching of students, residents and registrars, as well as the international fellows who join the team every year.James recognises the importance of considering and exploring all non-surgical options before recommending surgery to his patients. He works with a great team of surgeons, nurses and hand therapists to strive for the best possible outcomes.James is married with two young children. They love travelling the coast as a family. His only regret is not learning to surf as a kid.
