About Dr Gillian Rothwell

Dr Rothwell graduated from Sydney University in 1980. She spent her intern and resident years at Royal North Shore Hospital, before moving to Victoria where she completed two further years at Dandenong and District Hospital. Dr Rothwell then worked in part-time rural general practice in West Gippsland whilst her family were young, gaining the FRACGP in 1990. After a return to Sydney in 1995, Gill became more involved in palliative care work, initially at Lottie Stewart Hospital whilst gaining a Grad Dip Pall Med (Mel Uni) in 1999 and FAChPM in 2000. She also pursued her interest in sports medicine and was awarded a MSpMed (NSW Uni) in 2000._x000D_ Gill is now working full time as a palliative care specialist, whilst still maintaining a half day each week in cardiac rehabilitation at the San. She is an active VMO (visiting medical officer) at both the Sydney Adventist Hospital (San) and Neringah Hospitals._x000D_ Dr Rothwell is a member of NSWSPM, ANZSPM, GPNN and a member of the ethics committee at the San Hospital._x000D_ Gill has a special interest in wholistic care of the patient, ethics in palliative care and the education of patients, the community and other health personnel on the scope of palliative care.
