Profile: Dr Gerard Kilian is an Orthopaedic Surgeon based at Noosa. He has an extensive work history and has more than 19 years of specialised orthopaedic experience. He completed his medical degree at the University of Stellenbosch and then went on train as an Orthopaedic surgeon at the University of Cape Town. He was selected for a local travelling fellowship in South Africa in his final year of training and spent time in the other major training facilities. Thereafter he moved to Scotland where he and Leanne raised their family and he worked for 15 Years. He has worked in Queensland since 2011 and has also become a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (Orthopaedics).He has worked in District General hospitals as well as an elective orthopaedic hospital and an independent regional treatment centre (performing orthopaedic waiting list reduction surgery), mainly doing Hip and knee replacements. These were all high volume centres. In addition, he performs Arthroscopy of the knee and shoulder and undertakes upper limb surgery, carpal tunnel and other hand procedures as well as Hallux valgus surgery of the foot. He also provides a trauma service out of Noosa Hospital for appropriate patients. He does not perform spinal surgery.Dr Kilian uses newer techniques such as the tissue sparing anterior hip approach as well as technology such as computer navigation and Iassist (ipod type) to improve patient experience and outcomes.
