Profile: Dr Daya Sharma is a consultant ophthalmologist with a special interest in cataract surgery, refractive surgery (laser vision correction/LASIK, implantable lenses and refractive lens exchange), corneal surgery (corneal transplants, pterygium surgery etc).He is an experienced and meticulous cataract surgeon and has particular regard for precise visual outcomes, and offers a range of options to suit the patient’s desired outcome.He has undergone fellowship training on multiple different laser systems for correction of refractive errors (myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism), and as a laser refractive surgeon is known for his diligence, attention to detail, and for thorough and individualised service and follow-up. He underwent fellowship training at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London in Corneal, Cataract & Refractive Surgery. Dr Sharma was awarded a grant to study biometry (measurements for cataract surgery) in Vienna, Austria with Prof Oliver Findl, a world authority in the field. He performed research into transplantation immunology at Harvard Medical School and higher degree research into corneal disease at the UNSW. He is a regular scientific reviewer for the Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery, and Cornea (the Journal of The Cornea Society). He is also on the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Keratoconus and Ectatic Corneal Diseases, and has over 25 peer-reviewed publications.
