Profile: Dr David Kitchen trained in general medicine and surgery at the Flinders University of South Australia, graduating with the prestigious distinction of winning the Staff Prize in Surgery.Following further practice in Emergency Medicine and General Medicine, Dr Kitchen went on to specialise in Ophthalmology. He graduated with double Fellowships from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists and the Royal Australian College of Surgeons in 1996.Dr Kitchen has practiced widely throughout regional Queensland since 1996, including Mackay and Bundaberg, but since 2007 settled with his young family in Rockhampton and now consults from CQ Eye and Central Queensland Cataract Centre in Rockhampton and Gladstone.In 2015 Dr Kitchen established Central Queensland Cataract Centre, based in Rockhampton and Gladstone where he sees and treats cataract patients from throughout Queensland, with patients coming from as far as Cairns and Toowoomba for treatment.Dr Kitchen has personally performed more than 40,000 eye operations to date, using state-of-the-art equipment. Dr Kitchen has been a consultant eye specialist for over two decades and has a special interest in cataract and intraocular refractive surgery, medical retina (primarily age related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy), glaucoma and oculoplastic surgery.Dr Kitchen is also a Senior Lecturer in Ophthalmology with the University of Queensland.
