David graduated from The University of Melbourne in 2002 and underwent advanced training in haematology at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and The Alfred. He undertook a two-year fellowship in bone marrow transplantation at The Alfred in 2011 and 2012 and started working at University Hospital Geelong as a consultant haematologist in 2013.

He looks after patients with a wide range of benign and malignant haematological conditions. His special interests include the management of acute myeloid leukaemia, allogeneic stem cell (bone marrow) transplantation and early-phase clinical trials.
