Dr Gray graduated in Medicine from Sydney University in 1983. He completed cardiology training at Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) in 1990, and was admitted to Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians that year. He moved to Yorkshire, UK in late 1991 for 18 months to undertake further clinical work and research in the Department of Cardiovascular Studies at Leeds University, returning to RNSH in early 1993 to undertake research in the Cardiology Department. He was awarded NH and MRC postgraduate research scholarship in 1994, and received the inaugural Young Investigator Award from the NSW Cardiovascular Club in 1995, and the Young Investigator Award from the NSW branch of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand in 1996. He commenced in private cardiological practice in 1996, continuing research on a part-time basis. He was awarded a PhD degree in 1998. Dr Gray was Honorary Medical Director of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit at RNSH in 1999 and 2000, and is currently in private practice at Hornsby. He is a Visiting Medical Officer at Sydney Adventist Hospital and Hornsby Hospital.
