Radiologists are able to understand and explain medical conditions through the medical imaging of the internal parts of a patient’s body. Most radiologists in Australia work in general radiology with diagnostic imaging, comprising X-ray, computerised tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound and nuclear medicine imaging techniques, to obtain images that are interpreted to assist in diagnosis. A Medical Oncologist is a consultant physician specialising in the investigation, study, diagnosis, management and treatment of benign and malignant growths, tumours, cancers and diseases. Sub-specialties of oncology includes surgical oncology (removes the tumour or cancerous tissue during an operation), radiation oncology (radiation therapy), medical oncology (chemotherapy and ) hormone therapy, gynaecological oncologist (treats cancers of the female reproductive system and genitals), haematological oncologist (treats cancers of the blood and bone marrow), paediatric oncologist (treats cancers in children).
