Dr Tan is an alumnus of the University of Melbourne medical school and trained in Melbourne and Adelaide before her admission as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in the craft group of neurosurgery. Dr Tan spent three years conducting research into tumour suppressor genes at Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute.Dr Tan also completed a Fellowship in at the John Hunter Hospital in New South Wales where she concentrated on doing complex spine surgery for degenerative, traumatic and neoplastic diseases of the spine. She has been been involved in neuroscience curriculum development at Deakin University Medical School and has lectured second year medical school students for more than eight years.
Dr Tan is a general neurosurgeon with the capability for managing any surgically treatable neurological disease of the brain, spine and peripheral nervous system. Her subspecialty interests are brain tumours, trigeminal neuralgia, spinal disc replacement, minimally invasive spine surgery and robotic surgery.
