A Medical Oncologist is a consultant physician specialising in the investigation, study, diagnosis, management and treatment of benign and malignant growths, tumours, cancers and diseases. Sub-specialties of oncology includes surgical oncology (removes the tumour or cancerous tissue during an operation), radiation oncology (radiation therapy), medical oncology (chemotherapy and ) hormone therapy, gynaecological oncologist (treats cancers of the female reproductive system and genitals), haematological oncologist (treats cancers of the blood and bone marrow), paediatric oncologist (treats cancers in children). Gastroenterologist specializes in the prevention, investigation, treatment of and research into illnesses involving the gastrointestinal tract and liver such as inflammatory bowel disease, coeliac disease, irritable bowel syndrome and gastro-oesophageal disease.
