About Dr Ari Ariyapperuma
Dr Mira Ariyapperuma completed his initial Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor Surgery at the University of Colombo, graduating with honours in clinical sciences before undertaking further studies at Newham University Hospital in the United Kingdom. He moved to Australia in 2007 to take up a position at Royal Perth Hospital, which enabled him follow his passion and undertake specialist training in medical oncology in both Western Australia and New South Wales.
As a consultant medical oncologist, Dr Ariyapperuma is involved in teaching medical students and medical oncologists in training. He also has a significant research interest and combines clinical practice with research work at Linear Clinical Research. His research has led to several publications, including a poster presentation at the 2016 European Society for Medical Oncology meeting, with more pending.
Dr Ariyapperuma is a member of the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital Clinical Drug Trials Committee, the Medical Oncology Group of Australia (MOGA), the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), and the Australasian Gastro-Intestinal Trials Group (AGITG).
He treats all solid tumours, but has a particular interest in lung, gastrointestinal and urological cancers. Dr Ariyapperuma is also developing a supportive system to assist patients with advanced cancers in third world countries which will improve overall care.
