Profile: After completing his pathology training at Royal North Shore, the NSW Institute of Forensic Medicine, the Childrens Hospital Westmead and Royal Prince Alfred Hospitals, Dr Gill has been active in diagnostic surgical pathology, translational research and teaching at undergraduate and post-graduate levels. He is recognised internationally as an expert in endocrine pathology. He receives consultations cases in this area from around the world and is a sort after lecturer. In the last 5 years Dr Gill has authored more than 40 original scientific publications in international peer reviewed journals. His particular expertise lies in transforming advances in basic sciences into techniques such as immunohistochemistry which can be used diagnostically. He is credited for describing new techniques for the diagnosis of parathyroid carcinoma and hereditary parathyroid disease, adrenal carcinoma and aggressive pituitary tumours. He maintains an active interest in other areas of surgical pathology and cytology with particular skills in pulmonary, cardiovascular and gastro-intestinal (particularly pancreatic) pathology. He also holds the title of senior lecturer at the University of Sydney and chairs regular clinico-pathological conferences for medical student teaching.
